:Canadian-born soprano Darquise Bilodeau combines professional performing experience with research and voice pedagogy.
A graduate of McGill University and of the Université de Montréal, Darquise values ongoing professional development through regular participation in conferences and workshops on all aspects of singing.
Darquise has earned a PhD in Musicology from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (Birmingham City University) for her thesis on the songs of French composer Gabriel Fauré. She has a keen interest in French song and its poetry and continues her research on the subject, contributing articles and book reviews to the magazine of the Association of Teachers of Singing (AOTOS).
Darquise is an experienced performer who loves communicating with audiences and sharing music and its wonderful poetry, in the varied settings of opera, oratorio or recital.
In Canada, she sang in the professional chorus of the Opéra de Montréal and with The Tudor Singers of Montreal, touring throughout Canada, performing in concert series and in radio broadcasts.
As part of the Lyrichorégra20 project, Darquise toured in Quebec, bringing staged opera excerpts to elementary school children. She also sang with Trio Arabesque, a voice, flute and guitar trio, giving concerts in schools and in various venues around Montreal.
She appeared as a soloist in oratorio and opera concerts with ensembles such as The Montreal Chamber Orchestra, The St-Lambert Choral Society and the Laval Symphony Orchestra. A light-lyric soprano, she was in demand for concerts with the Johann Strauss Orchestra. She has also sung in radio broadcasts for Radio-Canada.
In this country, Darquise performed with pianist Jane Ford in the Midlands, in Chester and in Oxford. She has been a guest soloist with the Stone, Repton and Rolleston Choral Societies and with the St. Cecilia Festival Chorus in London. She has given numerous recitals, including an all-Fauré programme at the Birmingham Conservatoire.
